About ComputerTech – Our Team, Mission & Review Methodology

About ComputerTech

ComputerTech is an independent AI tools review site built for people who are tired of reading generic, surface-level AI content written by people who’ve never actually used the tools they recommend.

Every review, comparison, and guide on this site is based on real, hands-on testing. We don’t just read the marketing page and rewrite it — we sign up, build real projects, push limits, and report what actually works (and what doesn’t).

Meet the Founder

Sawyer Ruhl — Editor & Lead Reviewer

I’m Sawyer, a power engineer from Calgary, Alberta with an obsessive interest in how AI tools can make real work faster, better, and more efficient. I started ComputerTech because I was frustrated with the AI tool review landscape — too many sites regurgitate press releases and call it a “review.”

My background isn’t in marketing or journalism. I come from industrial operations where tools either work or they don’t — there’s no room for hype. I bring that same no-BS approach to every AI tool I review:

  • Real testing: Every tool gets hands-on evaluation with actual use cases, not synthetic benchmarks
  • Honest assessments: If a tool sucks, I’ll say so. If it’s overpriced for what it does, you’ll know
  • Practical focus: I care about what the tool actually does for YOUR workflow, not what the CEO said on a podcast
  • Technical depth with accessibility: Deep enough for power users, clear enough for beginners

When I’m not testing AI tools, I work as a power engineer in Alberta’s energy sector — which means I understand what it’s like to need tools that just work without hand-holding.

Our Review Process

Every piece of content on ComputerTech follows a rigorous process designed to deliver genuinely useful information:

1. Research & Discovery

We continuously monitor AI tool launches, updates, and industry shifts. When a tool catches our attention — whether it’s trending on Product Hunt or quietly solving a real problem — we investigate.

2. Hands-On Testing

We sign up for the tool (free trial or paid plan), use it for real tasks, and document the experience. This means actually writing content with AI writers, actually generating images with AI generators, and actually optimizing articles with AI SEO tools. No shortcuts.

3. Feature & Pricing Verification

Every feature claim and pricing detail is verified directly from the tool’s official documentation. If something has changed since we published, we update the article — our content stays current.

4. Honest Assessment

We evaluate each tool on what matters: output quality, ease of use, pricing value, unique features, and how it compares to alternatives. Every review includes real pros, real cons, and a clear recommendation on who the tool is (and isn’t) for.

5. Comparison Context

No tool exists in a vacuum. Every review includes how the tool stacks up against alternatives, with links to our other reviews so you can make an informed decision.

6. Ongoing Updates

AI tools evolve fast. We regularly revisit and update our reviews to reflect new features, pricing changes, and shifts in the competitive landscape. Every article shows its last updated date.

Our Editorial Standards

Independence

Our reviews are never influenced by affiliate relationships, sponsorships, or tool companies. We recommend tools because they’re genuinely good, not because they pay us more. If a tool with a great affiliate program isn’t worth recommending, we won’t recommend it.

Transparency

Some links on this site are affiliate links, meaning we earn a commission if you purchase through them — at no extra cost to you. This supports our ability to test tools and maintain this site. Our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service provide full details.

Accuracy

We verify all factual claims — pricing, features, integrations, company details — against official sources. If we make an error, we correct it promptly. Every article undergoes a multi-layer quality review process before publication.

No Fluff

We don’t pad word counts with generic filler. Every section of every article exists because it helps you make a better decision. If a 1,000-word review covers a tool better than 3,000 words of fluff, we’ll write 1,000 words.
